Dr. Niamh O'Hara is the Co-Founder and CEO of Biotia, where she leads strategy and commercialization of AI-powered metagenomic infectious disease diagnostics.

About Dr. Niamh O'Hara

Dr. Niamh O'Hara is an evolutionary biologist and health tech entrepreneur developing diagnostic technology to advance the understanding and treatment of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on overlooked, complex, and chronic infections.

She has led large-scale genomics research, development, and commercialization characterizing the microbiome of clinical environments, urine, vaginal, and SARS-CoV-2 samples. Dr. O'Hara is also a Research Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

Her academic training includes a postdoctoral fellowship in health tech business at Cornell Tech (2018), a postdoctoral fellowship in Bioinformatics at Fordham University (2015), a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Stony Brook University (2014), and a BA from New York University (2005).

Dr. O'Hara has published peer-reviewed research in journals including Nature Communications and Cell and holds three patents in the space. Her work has been featured at the United Nations and NextMed Health, and covered by GenomeWeb, Popular Science, the Huffington Post, and WIRED. She was selected as a TEDMED Hive Innovator in 2020.
