Biotia
About

Biotia

Biotia is a health tech company advancing infectious disease diagnostics for challenging infections. We pair clinical metagenomics and artificial intelligence to develop diagnostic and software solutions to help patients, providers, and health systems respond to infectious disease threats.

Our start

From bench to bedside

Biotia is a spinout company of the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute at Cornell Tech. Born out of research led by Dr. Niamh O'Hara and Dr. Chris Mason, Biotia has established itself as a leader in the emerging clinical metagenomics space. We operate a high complexity, CLIA-certified diagnostic laboratory in New York City where our R&D efforts continue to produce new diagnostic and software tools to respond to infectious diseases.

Our mission

Developing advanced infectious disease diagnostics for patients managing challenging infections

Toward a world where patients and providers have comprehensive pathogen insights for every infection.

Our values

Diagnostics should be designed with both the patient and provider in mind

01Patient belief

The patients we serve have often been told their symptoms don't match their results. We start from the position of listening to the patient when they tell us something is wrong. Our tests are designed to get them one step closer to understanding the root cause of their symptoms.

02Scientific integrity

We build every claim on what the evidence supports, and stop there. We qualify uncertainty. We explain limits. We invest in and publish basic and clinical research studies in peer-reviewed journals to build trust in our products.

03Clinical action through clarity

A diagnostic result that can't be understood is a missed opportunity. We build our reports to be clear, concise, and clinically actionable so that patients and providers understand the results and are able to do something about them.

04Purposeful innovation

Biotia builds cutting-edge diagnostic technology to address infections standard testing was never designed for. Every decision about what we test for, who we partner with, and what we claim follows from one commitment: to be genuinely useful to the patient.

05Equity and accessibility

The U.S. healthcare system is deeply inequitable. As such, Biotia is intent on ensuring our diagnostics tests are designed for the gaps in care the system produces. This includes working to obtain insurance reimbursement and expanding access to our diagnostics through partnerships with clinics, hospitals, and telehealth providers.
