NYS Clinical Laboratory Supervising Technologist

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as Clinical Laboratory Supervising Technologist as a full-time employee of our company. As a Clinical LaboratorySupervising Technologist, you will be responsible for coordinating and directing all activities of the CLIA laboratory while ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. Your expertise will contribute to the delivery of quality clinical services, employee compliance, and performance improvement initiatives within the clinical laboratory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handling and processing clinical samples such as urine, stool, blood, sterile fluids (CSF/ synovial fluid), and respiratory specimens that are likely related to infectious diseases (gastrointestinal and urogenital pathogens, respiratory pathogens including COVID-19) –early on no technical personnel will be available to provide support on the hands-on laboratory work
- Is accountable for all administrative and operational functions of the laboratory.
- Oversees daily laboratory operations and supervises subordinate personnel engaged in the specimen processing and clinical laboratory diagnostic testing, once the lab is more developed.
- Provides scientific, clinical, technical, and administrative insight in the development of a New York State-Department of Health(DOH) CLIA permit and LDTs
- Represents Biotia as it's laboratory supervisor to NYS-DOH in the application and onsite survey
- Ensures the laboratory’s services are compliant with NYS-DOH electronic ClinicalLaboratory Evaluation Program (eCLEP) and regulations
- Ensures the laboratory maintains CLIA certification and proficiency
- Follows and maintains NYS CLEP laboratory supervisor job requirements as stated in their standards and guidelines
- Reviews all laboratory standard operating policies and procedures and aids in draftingSOPs for newly developed assays
- Ensures best practices are employed in laboratory testing procedures and reporting
- Oversees quality control (QC) and quality assessment (QA) programs for clinical laboratory services with the Clinical Laboratory Director and the Chief MedicalOfficer
- Ensures personnel safety and well being;follows laboratory, department, and personnel safety guidelines.
- Reviewingthe strategy and operations of laboratory, collaborates in the development and scientific/clinicalvalidation of tests
- Works with staff to identify, investigate and correct failures in quality
- Reviews performance characteristics for validation and proficiency testing
- Helps establish pre-analytical and post-analytical phases of testing follows the laboratories quality system
- Ensures laboratory personnel have been appropriately trained and demonstrate competency prior to testing patient specimens
- Processing diagnostic tests and reviewing patient reports provided under the CLIA and LDT workflows
- Orders laboratory supplies and reagents; and maintains adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents; provides effective recommendations regarding capital equipment acquisition.
- Resolves day-to-day operational problems related to system, personnel and equipment performance; evaluates and updates laboratory procedures and methodologies.
- Ensures that staff follows policies and procedures to meet company objectives to meet patient needs and comply with regulatory agencies.
- Prepares work schedules and assigns work to future subordinate employees, ensuring adequate coverage at all times
- The full time Clinical Laboratory SupervisingTechnologist is required to work 40 hours each week. The job requires on site presence at the Biotia laboratory located in Long Island City, New York.
- The ClinicalLaboratory Supervising Technologist will work closely with the Chief MedicalOfficer, the Clinical Laboratory Director and the Clinical Program Manager to ensure developing and maintaining CLIA certification and LDTs related to infectious disease diagnostics using (NGS and PCR-based technologies).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in sciences or related field and 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting OR Master’s degree in sciences or related field and 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratorysetting, with supervisory preferred.
- Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologistin New York State
- Trainingin infectious diseases (bacteriology, virology, and mycology) and moleculardiagnostics is preferred
- Knowledgeof Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)
- Priorexperience supervising CLIA laboratory high complexity testing is preferred
- Able and willing tocommit to providing adequate hours on site at the current laboratory location,commensurate with the laboratory workload, scope and complexity of testprocedures, qualifications of on-site personnel, and availability of alternatemonitoring and communication capabilities
