Our Purpose:
At Biotia, we fight infectious diseases powered by AI software and genomics while developing a world leading microbial sequence database. We work with researchers, labs, and clinicians, leveraging high-complexity testing for rapid precision infectious disease discovery, providing critical insights to guide patient treatment and improve health outcomes. Our work in infectious disease has included pioneering products for SARS-CoV-2 variant detection (received FDA EUA), launching of bioinformatic pipelines with NASA, characterization of hard-to-diagnose infections and bacterial outbreaks in hospitals, and development of new diagnostic tools for women’s health.
Biotia is a fast-growing tech startup, born out of the Runway Program at Cornell Tech and operating out of our CLIA lab in Brooklyn and our office in Manhattan, NY. Our highly skilled lab, software, and business teams are like-minded in their approach. We have a passion for innovation and a culture centered around collaboration and curiosity. We are thought leaders in the infectious disease diagnostics space, leveraging a vast network in academia and industry to commercialize our revolutionary sequencing platform.
Position Summary:
With venture-backed funding and a growing pipeline of lab service and software products in the research and clinical markets, we are looking for a solution-oriented CFO to drive the financial strategy and be an active member of our executive team. The ideal candidate would be comfortable working in a fast-paced, tech-startup environment, owning complex projects, dealing with ambiguity, and wearing multiple hats. This candidate will have had success presenting and reporting to the Board of Directors, advising the CEO and executive team, managing bookkeeping and reporting financial statements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commitment of 10-15 hours per week
- Attend weekly team meetings and quarterlyBoard of Directors meetings
- Manage the outsourced bookkeeping function
- Ensure books are GAAP compliant and auditable
- Use Quickbooks Online, Slack, MS Office, Carta,TriNet, Stripe, Zoom, Box
- Financial planning and forecasting
- Manage taxes, insurance, advise HR, accountingpolicies and procedures, revenue recognition, equity

Qualifications:
- CPA preferred
- Prior CFO experience
- Domain experience in science, healthcaremanagement, diagnostic or med-tech preferred
